About Us

Who We Are

We're a small family-run urban farm on Mercer Island, WA. Initially focused on equestrian activities, we're now shifting to hosting events. We're dedicated to "The Whole Horse" approach, emphasizing the rider-horse bond. We believe that horses can teach us valuable lessons about ourselves, which drives our passion. Our horses live a pasture paradise lifestyle, roaming freely as a herd on our property. With breathtaking architecture and landscapes, we’re eager to open our farm to the community and share its beauty.

Our Story

The property upon which the Funny Farm is located was purchased in 2012 from the Stevenson Family, with the intention of keeping the tradition upheld since 1951 of having a home for horses. After a long process and a beautiful architectural design by McClellan Architects, our farm was finally habitable.

In March of 2017, our first horses arrived on the farm and our journey began. It took some time for us to get all of our herd gathered (and acquire a few new horses), but we opened for our first lessons in the fall of 2018.

Our farm was born out of the desire to have our small herd of horses closer to us, living a life more synonymous to the one intended to be for a horse. We have created a space where our horses can wander around from feeder to feeder free, with as close to constant access to hay as we are able to provide. Horses are nomadic creatures by nature, and the full track surrounding of our 5.8 acre piece of paradise gives them ample space to wander and play. As we continued on our journey, we welcomed 13 chickens to the family, who you will also see wandering free when they are not in their beautiful coop. We have exciting opportunities coming our way and look forward to what the future holds.
